If you’re planning a trip to San Diego, California or if you’re a Southern California resident, be sure to visit the San Diego Safari Park and their Butterfly Jungle. The exhibit opens March 10 and runs through April 15. That means it’s only open for about a month or so once a year. But before you head out to the park, be sure to read our short list of tips on how to make this experience ultra magical for you and your family.

Wear Bright Colors

Apparently, wearing bright colored clothing (especially yellow) attracts butterflies. They might mistake your bright outfit for a flower and head your way or even land on you.

Grab A Watermelon Cup

Be sure to grab some watermelon cups for sale outside the exhibit before you head into the exhibit. Butterflies absolutely love watermelon.

Get There Early

I know, so hard to get out the door with little ones but if you can plan ahead, getting there first thing in the morning and even better, during a weekday will help with the long lines spring break lines. Updated: This year, we went later in the day after 3pm over the weekend as we’re members and were surprised to see all the entertainment the zoo provided to the kids while waiting. The lines were much shorter later in the day as well.

*VIP pass

If you can’t get there early or go during a weekday, buy a VIP pass. It basically gets you to the front of the Butterfly Jungle line. Trust me, standing in a long line with little ones can be tough.

*Butterfly Jungle Breakfast

Enjoy an early morning breakfast buffet at the Safari Park and be one of the first to get a morning viewing of the butterflies. For reservations, call 619-718-3000 or book online at sdzsafaripark.org/dining-events.

*Butterfly and Friends Behind the Scenes Tour

Enjoy an exclusive early morning, guided tour of the butterfly jungle before the public arrives. Your guide will also take you to see some feathered friends. Space is limited, and this opportunity is only available on a few select days—reserve your spot now by calling 619-718-3000 or online at sdzsafaripark.org/safari/behind-scenes-safari.

*additional cost for these passes

And if you want to save money, just visit the park early in the morning and during a weekday as mentioned. Head straight to the butterfly jungle. We made no lines at all during the week.Butterfly-Jungle-2018-San Diego Zoo-Safari Park-Spring BreakButterfly-Jungle-2018-San Diego Zoo-Safari Park-Spring Break

  • 🥗Ok, you guys asked for it and I’m delivering! Fresh off the hand mixer and mixing bowl. Our homemade Orange Poppy Seed Dressing recipe. This is what really gets my kids to eat the kale. That and also because as mentioned, we use dinosaur kale 🦖 😆 Best of all? This salad dressing is the easiest to whip up and I bet you already have most of the ingredients needed in your kitchen pantry. Once you realize how easy it is to make vs buy, I’m hoping you’ll switch to the dark side. I love being able to modify the sugar intake. 😆😉 Ingredients
1/4 c freshly squeezed orange juice
2 tbs honey
2 tbs apple cider vinegar
1/3 c yogurt of choice - my kids love Simple Truth organic vanilla bean Greek yogurt
1/4 EVO or avocado oil
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbs poppy seeds

  • When you hear the word summer, what comes to mind? .

I think about warm weather, the beach, pool time, eating outdoors and drinking a delicious glass of rosé. 😋 And if you’ve been following me for awhile you know I love me some good wine and I’m a huge fan of @garyvee So when I heard Gary launched @empathywines I couldn’t wait to try the rosé. And not just saying it because I’m a fan of his but seriously so so good! Go to my stories to check it out. #empathywines

  • This week, I made a promise to myself only this time, I’m choosing not to break it!
As moms, we always put our kids, significant others, family, friends, work, etc. before us. Amiright? 🙋‍♀️ How many times have you committed and always made the extra effort to show up? Yet when we make a promise to ourselves we give up. That goes for everything not just that “workout” time. I’m talking about your dreams, your goals, aspirations whether it be in life, health, love, mental state whatever it is. Ladies, remember to be good to yourselves too. Don’t be that flaky friend that always leaves you hanging. And don’t get me wrong, I’m learning that keeping my promises I make to myself are possibly the hardest things to show up for. The mind is sooo powerful and loads my head with excuses and mom guilt. But I’m not giving up on myself and I hope you don’t either. We got this! 🙌 Shout out to @msrachelhollis for writing a book that helped me realize this! #motivation💪
  • What's your favorite summer salad to whip up at home?🥗 ¿Cuál es tu ensalada favorita para preparar en casa durante el verano?.
.
This Orange Poppy Seed Kale Salad is our fav. How do I get my kids to eat it? We use dinosaur kale because its bumpy leaves resembles what dinosaur skin looked like and my girls love dinosaurs. 🦖 😆 Also, I make this super easy salad dressing using ingredients we already have. Homemade salad dressing is way better than store bought as you control what actually goes into it. Total win-win.

  • How was your Mother’s Day weekend? 💐
.
.
I was so excited to go back to a restaurant my husband and I found back when I was pregnant with Lexi. We had gone on a date night and loved that it gave a historic vibe and that it was all outdoor dining. Surrounded by gorgeous flowers and their outdoor furniture was on point. We kept talking about this place for 3 years (I know, crazy!) but just never actually made the effort to go back. So on Saturday we made the effort. And guess what? .
.
Turns out the family owned business was forced to shut down a year ago to make way for apartments. It was heartbreaking to hear. But then my 7 yr old said “mami, it doesn’t matter where we eat as long as we’re together.” Geez! Who is this kid? 😆 She was so right. So we ate somewhere else which had outdoor seating and then it started pouring rain. We rushed inside the restaurant.🤣 Did you catch my stories? After the storm passed, a beautiful rainbow 🌈 showed up. 😊#familytime #myhappyplace #creatingmemories #misamores
