Top 5 Reasons I’m Glad I Have A Sibling

“Siblings are one of the best things our parents bring in our life. They are our first friends. We are raised together with them and so siblings understand each other better than others. Relationships between siblings is a bit complicated especially in childhood. They fight and argue with each other every now and then but at the end of the day they can’t live without each other. At some point you believe them to be our biggest rival and at other moment feel immense love for them. With time as they mature, they understand each other much better and learn to respect more.” — Ignited

Growing up with a younger sister (4 years apart), I can absolutely relate. We loved on each other hard and fought with each other as if we were number one rivals. But there is something about sibling relationships that only siblings can fully empathize with. Sharing toys, being each others spokesperson, laughing at inside jokes, and the ability to always forgive one another.

Recently, I went through a role of old childhood photos. Feeling nostalgic, I came up with my top 5 reasons why I’m glad I have a sibling (sister).

Top 5 Reasons I’m Glad I Have A Sibling

24/7 Playmate – Having a sibling around meant always having a friend to play with.

Biggest alibi– Always, always had each other’s backs. Well except for when it meant either one of us would get in trouble with our parents. Ha!

Twice the wardrobe – I was fortunate enough that my sister and I wore the same size in clothes once we both hit our teens. And I may or may not still raid her closet to this day.

Always there for me – My sister has been there for me in times of need more so as we get older. We now share larger responsibilities that include caring for our parents and family.

Babysitter duty – I remember helping take care of my little sister and now she helps babysit my girls. Best sitter ever!

These are just a handful of reasons why I’m glad I have a sibling. The list is actually quite long but I’ll spare you the other 95.

And interestingly enough, my daughters are also four years apart (Not that I planned it that way) and seem to resemble us too in appearance. Every time I see these two do something new together I feel like I’m having some sort of déjà vu moment. All of my sibling childhood memories flashing right before me. A reminder of all the reasons I’m so grateful to have a sister.

I loved this post so much! Those photos of your little babes are too cute! My “sister” ( she’s actually my aunt who’s 8 months younger than me lol) means the absolute world to me! We were besties growing up and still are. Now we have our two little ones who play with each other and it’s the sweetest thing.

Aw, Gladys! This is such a great post! I have an older sister by 6 years. We fought all the time when we were younger because I was that little sister who wanted to cling on her 24/7. We started getting closer when I finally became “cool” at 15 lolol. Now we’re the best of friends. There’s part of me that’s sad I never gave my son a sibling, but the way I see it, my husband, myself and my son are the perfect little trio 🙂
